Itinerary
Day 1 Vancouver to Kamloops
Depart Vancouver after boarding the ‘Rocky Mountaineer’. Pass through the fertile fields of the Fraser River Valley and the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains before entering the Fraser Canyon and the raging turbulence of Hell’s Gate. In early afternoon, follow the Thompson River through the stark and arid beauty of the interior to historic Kamloops, gateway to the interior of British Columbia. Overnight in a Kamloops hotel.
Day 2 Kamloops to Jasper
Back on board the ‘Rocky Mountaineer’, follow the Thompson River through rolling plateaus into the snowy peaks of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Pass Mt Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies (12,972 ft). Arrive late afternoon in Jasper, nestling in the middle of the National Park.
or Day 2 Kamloops to Banff and Calgary
Depart Kamloops through vast ranchlands along the South Thompson River to Shuswap Lake with a thousand miles of shoreline. Pass Craigellachie, where the ‘last spike’ was driven in to complete the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885, and enter the Rogers Pass, with tunnels, glistening glaciers and snow capped mountains. The Kicking Horse River leads you to Kicking Horse Pass, the Spiral Tunnels and over the continental divide to Banff and the Banff National Park. You may end your tour here or continue to the Stampede City of Calgary.
