Introduction
The rustic yet luxurious Knight Inlet Lodge, set in the natural habitat of the grizzly bear, has been voted ‘the most exotic destination in the world’. This floating lodge is in sheltered Glendale Cove, a pristine wilderness accessible only by floatplane. 24-26 guests are housed in cedar panelled rooms and most guest buildings have lounges with wood burning stoves for evening relaxation.
Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of Grizzly bears, sometimes 50 bears within 10km during peak season. In spring the bears come to feed on grasses and barnacles; in summer to harvest berries; and the highest numbers in autumn to fish for migrating salmon.
The standard Adventure Tour includes one night in Campbell River and one at the Lodge, with an afternoon of grizzly viewing. If you opt for a longer stay, you can choose from the following: Full day marine wildlife and whale watching in Johnstone Strait; Bald eagle and bird watching; scenic viewing or cruise of the Inlet; bear or wildlife viewing at Thompson Sound and Bond Sound; jetboat tours of Klinaklini River (water level dependent); tracking to make casts of animal prints; hiking or kayaking.
